The Fondue Monks


The Fondue Monks are a Texas based quartet with a sound that has been coined as "Electric Texas Gumbo". Since it's inception in April of 1991 this group is still together with all original members and continues to deliver their blues, funk, rock, jazz, fusion - hence: "Electric Texas Gumbo". The Fondue Monks can go from one side of the extreme rock world all the way over to an extreme funkness. They have an extremely loyal following and gains new fans at every show. They have had several nominations from the Houston Press since the bands inception and continue to provide a true Texas entertainment experience from clubs such as "Stubbs" in Austin to "The House of Blues" in New Orleans, LA. If you haven't experience the world of Monkdom go catch a show! Don't be surprised if someone comes up and pats you on the shoulder and tells you, "You just been Monked!! You will never be the same!"


Great Moments in Monk History


April 1991 - House Band every Thursday night at Houston's Marquis II

April 1995 - release if self titled debut CD - over 5,000 copies sold

November 1997 - First band to grace the stage at Bayou Place Theatre opening for "Little Feat" (Now Verizon Wireless Theatre)

February 1998 - release of second CD titled "Baila Toca"

April 1999 - Sign record deal with Sixtone records in Houston, TX

December 31,1999-play after party for ZZ TOP "New Year's Eve Show" with 101 KLOL presenting 30th anniversary to ZZ TOP at The Hard Rock Cafe

November 2000 - Houston winnder of the "Lucky Strike Band To Band Contest" after competing against Houston Bands "Moses Guest" and "The Tie That Bands" in the final round. Winners from 15 cities travel to compete against each other. Contest involved a total of 95 bands with only 5 finalists. The Fondue Monks were winners in the South Region with the final show at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA. The Fondue Monks finished 5th over all nationally and won over $30,000 in winnings. As a result the Fondue Monks had one track put on a compilation CD with the rest of the winners that was distributed nationally.

October 2001- Winners of the "Shiner Boc/Guitar Center Battle of the Bands Contest". They took home $10,000 worth of free equipment from Guitar Center and was given the opening slot for the Shiner Boctoberfest concert in Shiner Texas opening for "The Reverend Horton Heat", Joe Ely, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
